Wang Renjun (王仁俊; 1866–1913) was a late Qing and early Republican Chinese author and compiler of classical texts. He was a native of Wu County.
His alternate names include Ganchen, gan chen, han zheng, gan chun, Hanzheng, gan zheng, Zhouxu, and zhou xu; gan chen also appears as a studio name or sobriquet, Hanzheng and Zhouxu occur with unspecified classifications, and zhou xu is classified as a courtesy name. The name also appears in the English form Renjun Wang.
Life
Wang Renjun was a student of Yu Yue (1821–1906) and Huang Pengnian (1823–1890). He obtained the jinshi degree, ranking in the second class, 73rd place; from 1894 to 1897 he served as a zhu shi.
Works and compilations
His authored works include 《讀爾雅日記》 in one juan, 《希麟音義引說文考》 in one juan, and 《釋名集校》 in two juan. His compilations cover the Confucian classics, early commentaries, and lost fragments, including the Book of Changes, the Documents, the Odes, the Rites, and the three commentarial traditions on the Spring and Autumn Annals. Other compilations include the Analects, the Mencius, the Classic of Filial Piety, the Erya, and discussions of the Five Classics. His editorial range also extends to weft texts, philosophical works, military and agricultural writings, astronomy and calendrical studies, scripts and calligraphy, and anecdotal and strange-tale literature, including the Spring and Autumn Weft, lost writings of Laozi, lost writings of Sunzi, lost writings of Fan Shengzhi, the Canopy-Heaven Theory, lost calendrical texts, Seal Script Forms, lost texts of the Divine Marvels Classic, and the Forest of Laughter.
