Wang Zhideng (1535–1612) was a Ming-dynasty poet skilled in writing. His courtesy name was Baigu, also written 百榖 and 百穀; he used the sobriquet Yuzhe Shanren and was also known as Bogu. The name also appears in the Chinese forms 王稚登 and 王稺登. His ancestral-place designations are Changzhou and Suzhou Prefecture.
Life
He is also described as a buyi and shiren. He had a son, Wang Liu, and a son-in-law, Wen Yuanshan (1554–1589).
Wang was a friend of Zhou Tianqiu (1514–1595) and travelled with Yuan Hongdao (1568–1610). Yuan praised Wang’s poetry and literary style, gave him a farewell piece, and corresponded with him.
Wang also wrote prefaces for works by Xue Susu, Wen Zhaozhi, Ma Shouzhen, and Zhao Zhihao; Tu Long wrote prefaces for Wang’s book and genealogy. Zhu Duozhen visited Wang Bogu in Jinling.
Li Weizhen wrote Wang’s epitaph, Zou Diguang authored his biography, and Wang wrote a tomb inscription for Gu Yuanqing.
His correspondence also involved Feng Shike, Xie Zhaozhi, Wang Shimao, Xing Tong, Zhang Jiayin, Wang Zudi, Li Yaomin, and Mei Dingzuo; other correspondents included Zhang Xuan, Chen Yuqiao, Huang Chengxuan, Zhao Shixian, Wu Guolun, Huang Ruheng, Yu Yin, and Hao Jing.
Works
His works include 《虎苑》 (two juan), 《弈史》 (one juan), 《雨航紀》 (one juan), 《泰興志》, and 《松壇集》.
