Wang Sicheng was a political figure of the late Ming period. His hao was Ming Shi, and he came from Putai County in Jinan Prefecture, Shandong.
Family
His grandfather, Wang Eryan, was a juren in the gengwu examination of the Longqing era; he served as an instructor in Sui Prefecture and was later promoted to magistrate of Daming County. His genealogical relationship to Wang Xian is expressed by the two terms zengsun and chongsun; Wang Xian passed the jinshi examination held in the second year of Jingtai, ranking 36th in the second class.
Examinations and official career
In the first year of Tianqi (1621), he passed the Xin-you Shandong provincial examination and became a juren; in the first year of Chongzhen (1628), he ranked 324th in the Wuchen metropolitan examination but did not sit the palace examination; in the fourth year of Chongzhen (1631), he passed the third-class jinshi examination. He then served at the Court of Judicial Review in an observation capacity and, in the fifth year, was appointed judicial assistant in Datong Prefecture.
