Feng Dengfu (馮登府; 1780–1841) was a Qing dynasty scholar. A native of Jiaxing in Zhejiang, he was styled Yunbo (雲伯) and was also known by the sobriquets Liudong (柳東) and Shaoyuan (勺園). He studied the classics in both the Han and Song traditions, wrote prose in the Tongcheng manner, and was versed in phonology and semantics; he was also a poet and a writer of ci, and he gave attention to epigraphy.

Life

He first qualified as a provincial graduate (juren), and in 1820, the twenty-fifth year of the Jiaqing reign, he became a jinshi; he was then made a Hanlin bachelor (shujishi) and appointed a district magistrate. In 1824, the fourth year of the Daoguang reign, he served as magistrate of Jiangle county in Fujian, and was afterwards transferred to the professorship of the Ningbo prefectural school. Among his friends were Qian Yiji, Qian Taiji, Li Fusun, Li Yide, Li Yusun and Li Chaosun; he was also among the followers of Ruan Yuan, and he wrote biographies of Hu Jian and Dai Guangluo. His wife was Li Wan, and his grandson was Feng Liusun.

Scholarship and works

His works include Sanjia shi yiwen shuzheng 三家詩異文疏證 (6 juan; another record gives 2 juan), Sanjia shi yishuo yizheng 三家詩遺說翼證 (20 juan), Han sanjia shi yizi gu 漢三家詩異字詁, Shisan jing gu dawen 十三經詁答問 (6 juan) and Lunyu yiwen kaozheng 論語異文考證 (10 juan).

In the study of the stone classics he wrote Shijing kaoyi 石經考異 (12 juan) and Shijing bukao 石經補考 (11 juan), with separate studies of the Han, Wei, Tang, Shu, Northern Song, Southern Song and Qing stone classics; his epigraphic works include Minzhong jinshi zhi 閩中金石志 (14 juan), Jinshi zongli 金石綜例 (4 juan), Shijingge jinshi bawen 石經閣金石跋文 (1 juan) and Zhejiang zhuanlu 浙江磚錄.

His collections of prose, poetry and ci include Shijingge wenji 石經閣文集 (8 juan), Shijingge shilue 石經閣詩略 (5 juan), Baizhu shikan shicun 拜竹詩龕詩存, Diaochuan dipu 釣船笛譜 (1 juan) and Meili ciji 梅里詞輯 (6 juan), as well as Baishuting ji waigao 曝書亭集外稿 (8 juan) and Xiaozhexian guan zhiyan 小謫仙館摭言 (10 juan).
