Jiang Qiyang (1795–1856), a Qing official; his name is also written 蔣啟揚. His courtesy name was Mingshu and his style name Yufeng; he was a native of Quanzhou, Guangxi. He also used the courtesy name Yansan and the names Yufeng (玉峯; also 玉峰), Wenmeixuan, and Yipu.
Life
His examination record includes the shengyuan, xianggong juren, and jinshi degrees; he ranked seventh among xianggong juren and 137th among jinshi. At Daoguang 2 (1822), he became a jinshi.
Appointed as a county magistrate and assigned to Jiangxi, he served successively as magistrate of Guangchang, Dexing, Huichang, Xincheng, Ganxian, Yongfeng, Guixi, and Nanchang from Daoguang 2 to 16. From Daoguang 18 to 25, he successively served as assistant prefect of Dingnan Ting, prefect of Yining Zhou, prefect of the area under Ningdu Zhili Zhou, assistant prefect of Nanchang Fu, and prefect of Raozhou Fu. In Daoguang 26 he held the rank of prefect, and in Daoguang 27 he served as prefect of Guangxin Fu and Nanchang Fu; in Xianfeng 3 he held the rank of Surveillance Commissioner.
He was later promoted to Circuit Intendant for Hebei Defense under Henan and served as acting Director-General of the Hedong River Conservancy; his administration was effective wherever he served. He died while engaged on a river embankment project.
Associations and family
He studied under Cheng Zuluo, Zheng Shiren, Shen Xuehou, Wang Zengfang, Jiang Song, and Jiang Dingshan; he was a friend of Weng Xincun and Mei Zengliang, a fellow examination-year associate of Lu Jianying and Shi Jiashao, and a member of a poetry society with Zou Minghe, Zhang Weiping, and Huang Jun. During his official career, he served under Jiang Youxian, Cheng Hanzhang, Fu Shengxun, Zhou Zhiqi, Wu Wenrong, Li Jun, Wu Guangyue, Lu Yinggu, and Yiliang.
His family relationships included Jiang Wenwenbei as a direct ancestor, and Wang Xuan, Shi Dachang, Shi Shouchang, Xie Hongce, and Xie Xichou as affines.
Works
His works include 《問梅軒詩文集》, 《宦海一蠡》, and 《教士彙編》; the last is also titled 《敎士彙編二卷》, and 《訓俗邇言》 is additionally attributed to him.
Other titles associated with him include 《問梅軒課藝偶存》, 《德興縣志》, 《會昌縣志》, 《李杜韓三家摘句》, 《梅潭蔣氏世譜:二十卷》, 《見聞偶筆》, 《試帖偶存》, and 《贛郡利病書》; their authorship status is unspecified.
