Dai Biaoyuan (1244–1310) was a Yuan-dynasty poet, writer, and thinker. His courtesy names were Shuaichu and Zengbo; he was also known as Shanyuan Xiansheng. He was from Fenghua Prefecture, also recorded as Fenghua Commandery.

Life

His examination career included the jinshi category; in 1269, the fifth year of the Xianchun era, he was a student in the Imperial Academy. He studied under Wang Yinglin, and Chen Yizeng was his student.

His appointments included a professorship in the Confucian school of Jiankang Route and professorships in the Confucian schools attached to the route head offices of Xinzhou and Wuzhou; the Xinzhou appointment is dated to 1302, the sixth year of the Dade era.

Family and networks

His father was Dai Hao. His four sons were Dai Chuyang, Dai Ciji, Dai Hougeng, and Dai Youru.

His sons-in-law included Lu Mengsun, Sun Xiaoweng, Xu Gongshuo, and Yuan Gengsun. He was friends with Zhou Mi, Zhao Mengfu, and Liu Guan, and exchanged verse with Fang Hui, Chen Zhu, Lu Wengui, and others.

Literary work and writings

His collection is titled 《剡源集》, also found as 《剡源文集》. He wrote prefaces to the poetry and prose collections of Zhou Mi, Zhao Mengfu, Fang Hui, Qiu Yuan, and others; the titles also include 《王伯善農書序》, 《天原發微序》, and 《春秋法度編序》.

His writings range across prefaces to poetry and prose, epitaphs, tomb inscriptions, sacrificial texts, biographies, elegies, farewell poems and prefaces, studio and hall inscriptions, colophons on books and paintings, notes on buildings, academies, and Daoist temples.

Later texts

Yuan Jue wrote 《戴先生墓誌銘》; Song Lian wrote a preface to 《剡源集》 and a colophon titled 《題剡源清茂軒記後》, while Liu Guan wrote 《跋文長老所藏曹泰宇戴帥初詩》.
