Li Yin (1616–1685; her birth year is also given as 1610) was a female poet and painter of the late Ming and early Qing. She was styled Jinshi (今是) and Jinsheng (今生); her hao included Shian (是庵/是菴), Kanshan (龕山), 龕山逸史, and 龕山女史, while Jinsheng was used as a late hao. Her native place is variously given as Qiantang in Zhejiang (浙江錢塘), Kuaiji (會稽), and Hangzhou (杭州). She was the concubine, or secondary wife, of Ge Zhengqi, who held the title guanglu qing (光祿卿); the relationship is also rendered as “husband.”
Life
After Ge Zhengqi died, Li Yin supported herself by her brush and ink.
Poetry and painting
She excelled in regulated verse and painting, often working in ink wash; her work was described as free of a boudoir manner. Her painting style followed Chen Chun (1483–1544) and Ye Danian.
Works
Her works include 《竹笑軒集》, along with the titles 《竹笑軒吟稿》 and 《竹笑軒吟草續槀》. The two-volume 《竹笑軒吟草續草》 and 《明心錄》 are also associated with her. She authored the four-volume 《受祺堂文集》 and the four-volume 《續刻受祺堂文集》.
