Xue Shaohui (1866–1911) was a woman author of the late Qing period. Her courtesy name was Xiuyu and her hao, or sobriquet, was Nansi; her native place is variously identified as Houguan and Min County, Fujian (now Fuzhou).
Life
Her father was Xue Shangzhong; her elder brother was Xue Yukun (born 1863), and her elder sister was Xue Sihui (1865–1949). Xue Lei and Xue Rong were wives of her brothers.
She married Chen Shoupeng (1855–1912), a scholar who had sojourned in France, and they had an eldest daughter, Chen Yun (1885–1911), a son, Chen Qiang (born 1890), a daughter, Chen Hong (born 1892), and a son, Chen Ying (born 1899).
She wrote a preface for a book by Ding Yun (1859–1894). Her books have prefaces by her husband Chen Shoupeng, her brother Xue Yukun, and her sister Xue Sihui; chronologies were written by her son Chen Qiang and her daughter Chen Hong.
Works
Her writings include the Daiyunlou Poetry Collection (four juan), the Daiyunlou Poetry and Prose Collection, the Daiyunlou Prose Collection, and the Daiyunlou Ci Collection (eight juan).
Other titles include the Foreign Biographies of Exemplary Women (seven juan; one list writes the title's middle character as 列, another as 烈), Around the World in Eighty Days (four juan), Short Biographies of Women Writers, and the Correct Guide to Investigative Learning (ten juan). The Comprehensive Anthology of Ci by Women of the Dynasty (ten juan) is also presented with the character 綜 replaced by 蹤, and was compiled by her.
